Your Questions, Honestly Answered.
At Arctic Rose Wellness, we believe an informed patient is an empowered one. Below you'll find answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don't see what you're looking for, call us at 907-621-9939 or book a consultation — we're happy to talk it through.
Is Arctic Rose Wellness Right for Me?
Who does Arctic Rose Wellness serve?
We serve women and men in Anchorage and across Alaska who are looking for personalized, unhurried healthcare. Our patients are typically adults ages 23–65 who feel dismissed by traditional medicine, are experiencing unexplained symptoms, or are simply ready for a provider who takes the time to actually listen. We see patients in person at our Midtown Anchorage clinic and via telemedicine for Alaska residents who cannot travel.
Do you see male patients?
Yes. We offer hormone evaluation and BioTE pellet therapy for men. Many of our male patients come to us experiencing fatigue, low energy, mood changes, or reduced performance — symptoms that are often connected to declining testosterone levels. We assess your full hormone panel and build a personalized protocol based on your actual labs and goals.
Do you accept patients from outside Anchorage?
Yes. We offer telemedicine appointments for Alaska residents statewide. Whether you're in the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kenai, Homer, Wasilla, Palmer, or a rural community, you can access our services remotely. Some services — such as BioTE pellet insertion and in-office GYN visits — do require an in-person visit at our Midtown Anchorage clinic at 4101 Arctic Blvd, Suite 206.
Do you accept insurance?
Arctic Rose Wellness is a private-pay clinic. We do not bill insurance directly. However, many of our services and packages are HSA/FSA eligible, and some lab work and medications may be covered depending on your plan. We believe transparent, direct-pay care allows us to spend more time with you and less time navigating insurance restrictions. Our full pricing is available at arcticrosewellness.com/pricing.
What makes Arctic Rose Wellness different from a traditional clinic?
We are not a high-volume practice. We don't rush appointments or offer one-size-fits-all protocols. Every patient receives a thorough intake, the right labs, and a care plan built specifically for their body and goals. Our providers bring combined clinical experience and a genuine commitment to root-cause care — not just symptom management.
How do I get started?
Book an initial consultation at arcticrosewellness.com or call 907-621-9939. We'll match you with the right provider and service based on your needs. Initial consultations are available in-person in Midtown Anchorage and via telemedicine for Alaska residents.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
What is HRT and who is it for?
Hormone Replacement Therapy restores hormone levels that have declined due to aging, perimenopause, menopause, or other hormonal imbalances. It is appropriate for women experiencing hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, fatigue, low libido, mood changes, weight gain, or disrupted sleep — and for men experiencing fatigue, low energy, mood shifts, or reduced performance.
What symptoms might indicate I need HRT?
Common symptoms include hot flashes and night sweats, brain fog or difficulty concentrating, persistent fatigue despite adequate sleep, low libido, mood changes or irritability, unexplained weight gain, vaginal dryness, and disrupted sleep. These symptoms are not simply a normal part of aging — they are often signs that your hormones need attention.
What does an HRT consultation involve?
Your initial HRT consultation includes a comprehensive health intake, review of your symptoms and history, and lab work to assess your current hormone levels. From there, your provider builds a personalized protocol tailored to your body, your labs, and your goals. Follow-up visits monitor your progress and adjust your protocol as needed.
What forms of HRT do you offer?
We offer multiple forms of HRT including creams, pills, and BioTE bioidentical hormone pellets. Your provider will discuss which delivery method is the best fit for your lifestyle and clinical needs.
How long does it take to feel results from HRT?
Most patients begin noticing improvements within 4–8 weeks, though individual results vary. Your provider will set clear expectations at your initial consultation.
Is HRT safe?
HRT has been extensively studied and is considered safe and effective for most patients when properly managed by a qualified provider. Jean Walker, WHNP-BC, brings significant clinical experience in hormone management and will review your full health history to ensure HRT is appropriate for you.
BioTE Hormone Pellet Therapy
What is BioTE pellet therapy?
BioTE is a form of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy delivered via a small pellet inserted just under the skin, typically near the hip. The pellet dissolves slowly over 3–6 months, delivering consistent, steady hormone levels without the need for daily pills, patches, or creams. Arctic Rose Wellness is a certified BioTE provider.
How is BioTE different from other forms of HRT?
Unlike pills or patches that can cause fluctuating hormone levels throughout the day, BioTE pellets release hormones steadily and consistently — mimicking how your body naturally produces them. Many patients describe it as the most stable and symptom-free form of HRT they've experienced.
Does the pellet insertion hurt?
Most patients report minimal discomfort. The area is numbed with a local anesthetic before insertion, and the procedure typically takes only a few minutes. Patients often say it was much easier than they expected.
How long does a BioTE pellet last?
For women, pellets typically last 3–4 months. For men, pellets typically last 5–6 months. Individual absorption rates vary based on activity level, metabolism, and hormone needs.
When will I start feeling the effects of BioTE pellet therapy?
Most patients notice changes within 2–4 weeks of insertion. Full effects are typically felt within 4–6 weeks.
How much does BioTE pellet therapy cost?
Initial BioTE pellet insertion for women is $495. Repeat insertions for women are $495 every 3–4 months. For men, pellet therapy is $850 every 5–6 months. Annual packages are also available. See full pricing at arcticrosewellness.com/pricing.
Is BioTE available for men?
Yes. BioTE pellet therapy is one of the most effective hormone optimization options for men experiencing symptoms of low testosterone. Pellets for men last 5–6 months per insertion.
GLP-1 & Weight Management
What is GLP-1 therapy?
GLP-1 medications are a class of prescription medications that support weight loss by regulating appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and improving insulin sensitivity. When prescribed as part of a comprehensive care plan, GLP-1 therapy can be a meaningful tool for patients whose bodies are working against their weight management efforts.
Who is a good candidate for GLP-1 therapy?
GLP-1 therapy may be appropriate for patients who have struggled with weight management despite consistent effort, particularly those with underlying hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance, or metabolic dysfunction. We evaluate each patient individually and do not prescribe without a thorough review of your labs, health history, and goals.
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications without a full evaluation?
No. Every GLP-1 patient receives an initial consultation, labs, and an individualized plan. We look at the full picture — hormones, metabolic health, and lifestyle — before prescribing.
How much does GLP-1 support cost?
Initial GLP-1 consultation is $375. Follow-up weight check visits without labs are $75. Follow-up visits with lab review are $225. Annual GLP-1 packages start at $1,700 ($141.67/month). See full pricing at arcticrosewellness.com/pricing.
Annual Exams & GYN Visits
Do you offer annual women's health exams?
Yes. We offer comprehensive annual wellness exams for women ages 18 and older. Your visit includes a pap smear when indicated (billed through insurance), a full review of your health history, hormone assessment, and a real conversation about your cycle, energy, mood, sleep, and overall wellness goals.
How is your annual exam different from a standard clinic visit?
At Arctic Rose Wellness, your annual exam is not a rushed 10-minute checkup. We take the time to review your labs, assess your hormones, and have a genuine conversation about how you're feeling — not just whether your pap came back normal.
How much does an annual exam cost?
Ages 18–39: $266. Ages 40–64: $341. Ages 65 and older: $350. Pap smear when indicated is billed through insurance.
Do you see patients for GYN concerns outside of annual exams?
Yes. We offer same-day and scheduled GYN problem visits. A standard GYN problem visit is $225. Complex problem visits are $350. Punch biopsy and endometrial biopsy when indicated are billed through insurance.
Can I book a GYN visit if I'm not an established patient?
Yes. You do not need to be an established patient to be seen for a gynecological concern. New patients are always welcome.
Fertility Support
Does Arctic Rose Wellness offer fertility services?
Yes. We offer comprehensive fertility support for women ages 23–45, with a focus on root-cause evaluation, hormone optimization, and natural conception support.
What fertility services do you offer?
We offer hormone and metabolic lab evaluation, ovulation tracking and confirmation, ovulation induction with letrozole or clomiphene, PCOS and irregular cycle management, hormone balancing, recurrent pregnancy loss evaluation and support, preconception counseling, and early pregnancy monitoring. We also coordinate care with IVF clinics when indicated.
Do you offer fertility care for military families?
Yes. We have experience supporting military members and families navigating fertility within operational constraints and understand the unique challenges that come with military life in Alaska.
When should I consider a fertility consultation?
We recommend booking if you have been trying to conceive for 6–12 months without success, have irregular or absent cycles, have a known diagnosis such as PCOS or endometriosis, have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, or want to optimize your health before trying to conceive.
How long does the fertility support process typically take?
Month 0–1 is your initial consultation, labs, and baseline assessment. Months 1–3 focus on hormone optimization and cycle regulation. Months 3–6 involve active conception support or ovulation induction. If conception has not occurred by month 6, we coordinate a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist while continuing to support your care.
